The ROG Xreal R1, priced at $849 and expected to ship in September, projects a 171-inch virtual screen. A more affordable option, the Xreal xbx A01+, launched in May for $299, offers a smaller screen and lower quality but a lighter frame.

These devices avoid the privacy controversies associated with camera-equipped frames like Meta's Ray-Bans because they do not record or capture images. Instead, they offer a private viewing experience for sensitive documents or entertainment. Anshel Sag, a principal analyst at Moor Insights and Strategies, notes that the primary strength of these glasses is that they "just work," providing a reliable video signal from the connected device.

However, the technology faces hurdles. Wired reports that resolution and fidelity remain lower than smartphones or laptops, resulting in blurry text. Additionally, the ROG Xreal R1 can suffer from overheating during prolonged use. Despite these flaws, the devices offer a viable alternative for users who want a giant screen for gaming or productivity without the weight of a full spatial computing headset.
