The company introduces the Pulse and Pulse Edge, leveraging Audeze-derived technology to improve directional audio and bass.
Sony has announced two new wireless headsets, the PlayStation Pulse and the Pulse Edge, according to Engadget. Both models utilize planar magnetic drivers, a technology Sony integrated into its product line after acquiring the premium brand Audeze.
Unlike traditional drivers, planar magnetic systems use thin, flat diaphragms positioned between magnets. Engadget reports that this design is capable of producing cleaner bass and lower distortion. Sony claims this technology helps gamers better identify directional cues, such as the location of footsteps in first-person shooters.
The two models differ in hardware and features. Engadget notes that the Pulse Edge includes double the magnets of the standard Pulse model to provide deeper bass. Additionally, the Pulse Edge features active noise cancellation and a detachable boom microphone. Both headsets include integrated microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection.
In terms of connectivity, both devices support Bluetooth and PlayStation Link. The latter allows for ultra-low latency audio and seamless switching between compatible devices, including Mac, PC, the PlayStation Portal, and the PS5.
While Sony has not yet released pricing or availability for the new models, Engadget suggests the Pulse Edge will be the more expensive option. For context, the PlayStation Pulse Elite is currently priced at $149 on Amazon, while the PlayStation version of the Audeze Maxwell 2, revealed at CES 2026, costs $329.
