The new AI-powered 'vibe coding' tool allows users to build interactive games via text prompts, but creators remain tethered to Meta's ecosystem.

Meta has launched a new mobile application called Pocket, designed to make the creation of interactive "gizmos" as accessible as posting to social media. As Ars Technica first reported, the app allows users to build fully functional game prototypes and interactive toys using text prompts, removing the need for traditional coding knowledge, command-line interfaces (CLIs), or integrated development environments (IDEs).

Launched in the U.S. on August 21, Pocket follows Meta's March acquisition of the team behind Gizmo, a now-defunct "vibe-coding" application. The tool enables users to iterate on game designs through a chat-based interface with a large language model (LLM). Ars Technica writer Kyle Orland detailed the process, noting that complex features—such as physics models, ammo systems, and score-multiplier systems—can be implemented through iterative prompting. In one instance, Orland developed a "Sling Shot" game and an arcade-style juggling game, refining the projects over hundreds of prompts to add enemy patterns, sound effects, and UI elements.

While the tool lowers the barrier to entry for game design, the resulting intellectual property is restricted. Ars Technica reports that these AI-generated creations are effectively trapped within Meta's "walled garden." The app utilizes a TikTok-style endless scroll for sharing, incorporating social media features such as reposts, comments, and likes, but provides no viable method for creators to export their work or turn their gizmos into independent projects outside of the Meta platform.
