The luxury phone maker is targeting CEOs with a foldable device centered on an AI agent designed to automate corporate workflows.

Vertu is pivoting from selling simple status symbols to marketing productivity for the ultra-wealthy with the launch of the Alphafold, a luxury foldable smartphone starting at $6,880. According to TechCrunch, the device is specifically targeted at chief executives, pairing high-end materials with the "Hermes Agent," an AI tool built on the open-source Hermes project.

Unlike standard AI assistants, Vertu claims the Hermes Agent can execute multi-step workflows, analyze spreadsheets and contracts, and manage business trips. The agent is designed to automate tasks across various applications and can hand off requests to a human concierge. TechCrunch reporting notes that while the device is marketed as a luxury tool, it bears striking similarities to the $1,100 ZTE Nubia Fold, including the hinge design and speaker placement. Vertu confirmed to TechCrunch that the Alphafold was developed via a supply-chain partnership using ZTE/Nubia's hardware platform and production engineering, though Vertu maintains responsibility for quality control, software, and luxury materials.

Physically, the Alphafold weighs 264 grams—heavier than the 215-gram Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7—and features titanium accents and genuine calfskin leather. TechCrunch's testing indicated that the Hermes Agent outperformed Google's Gemini on the Samsung device when analyzing local files and executing autonomous app actions, although early software builds faced stability issues with file uploads and concierge connectivity before server-side fixes were applied.
