John Schneider is playing the corporate game, but the roster reality is screaming for a fire sale before the assets lose their luster. To pretend otherwise is to ignore the standings.

According to reporting from Sports Illustrated, Blue Jays manager John Schneider told MLB.com reporter Keegan Matheson that the team's trade deadline plans are currently "murky." Schneider further noted that he has received no directive from organization leadership indicating that the club is planning to be sellers, despite the team entering their series against the St. Louis Cardinals sitting nine games under .500.

Sports Illustrated notes that Toronto currently occupies last place in the AL East. While the club remains 5.5 games back in the wild-card race, the path to becoming buyers is narrow and precarious. For the Blue Jays to realistically consider adding talent, Sports Illustrated suggests they would likely need to sweep their series with the Cardinals.
