Twitch Introduces Generative AI Opt-Out for Streamers

Amazon's parent company now allows creators to block future training on their content, though the setting was reportedly enabled by default.
Twitch has implemented a new "Training for Generative AI" toggle in its security and privacy settings, allowing streamers to prevent Amazon from using their content to train generative AI models. According to reporting from The Verge, the opt-out applies to future training of models designed to synthesize or generate video, audio, images, or text.
Content covered by this opt-out includes stream clips, VODs, live streams, channel images, text, and stream chats. However, Engadget reports that the setting was automatically enabled for users, meaning Amazon may have already utilized creator data before the toggle was available.
While creators can block generative AI training, certain AI-supported features remain active. Twitch states that these tools—which include automated captions, viewer discovery recommendations, and the AutoMod safety tool—are necessary for community security and streamer monetization and cannot be disabled individually.
Additionally, the opt-out is channel-specific. As noted by both The Verge and Engadget, if a user participates in a chat on another creator's stream, the training preferences of that specific channel owner determine whether the chat data is used for AI training.
