Southern Miss Guard Brewer Carruth Targeting 'Three-Level Threat' Status

Southern Miss junior guard Brewer Carruth is utilizing the offseason to evolve into a "three-level threat" on both ends of the floor, according to Sports Illustrated.

Carruth, who was regarded as one of the best defenders on a gritty 2025-26 Southern Miss squad, is now focusing on offensive consistency. After increasing his three-point percentage from 14.3 percent as a freshman to 22.9 percent as a sophomore, Carruth was challenged by the coaching staff to improve his outside game. Sports Illustrated reports that Carruth was the first player to meet a team challenge to make 75,000 three-pointers independently outside of practice.

Beyond individual growth, Carruth told Sports Illustrated that the Golden Eagles possess a genuine belief in their ability to win the Sun Belt championship during the 2026-27 season. He noted that the team has improved its chemistry and added a combination of speed, strength, athleticism, and length over the summer.

While Carruth has focused on modeling his game after Larry Bird, he expressed that his primary goals for his junior year under Coach Lander are winning the Sun Belt tournament and making a run in March Madness.
