Slack is expanding its AI capabilities with the launch of Slackforce Surfaces, a feature that enables users to generate interactive reports, dashboards, microsites, and presentations directly within chat interfaces. According to reporting from The Verge, users can simply describe the tool they need to Slackbot, which then uses AI to aggregate data from connected applications such as Salesforce and Google Drive.
This push toward "vibe-coding" allows for highly stylized, interactive corporate tools. The Verge notes that Slack shared an example of a user requesting an arcade-themed visualization to track AI token usage across engineering, design, and sales divisions. Other potential applications include weather-themed financial forecasts or live customer support queue dashboards.
Ryan Gavin, Slack's chief marketing officer, told The Verge via email that the goal is to allow teams to build decks and reports where the conversation is already happening, rather than exporting data to external tools. The update follows a recent overhaul of Slackbot into an AI assistant and the introduction of collaborative vibe coding channels.
Slack stated that the tool will only access information the user has explicitly permitted. Slackforce Surfaces is currently available to all customers, including free users, provided Slackbot is enabled. Support for live data is scheduled to begin in October.
