The AI-native accounting startup secured a $100 million raise as investors bet on the disruption of legacy ERP systems.
AI accounting platform Rillet has reached a $1 billion valuation following a $100 million funding round that closed in just 48 hours, as TechCrunch first reported. The company, which emerged from stealth two years ago, has now raised a total of $200 million from investors including Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, and ICONIQ.
CEO Nicolas Kopp told TechCrunch that the company was not actively seeking capital when the round materialized. The momentum followed a board meeting where Rillet reported that its annualized revenue rate had doubled in a single quarter. The startup has amassed 600 customers, including public companies, and has formed an alliance with auditing firm EY.
According to Kopp, Rillet is gaining traction as customers migrate away from legacy providers. He noted that 50% of Rillet's customers come from Intuit, 30% from Sage Intacct and NetSuite, and 20% from Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, and Workday. Seth Pierrepont, a general partner at ICONIQ who led the round and will join the board, told TechCrunch the investment was driven by Rillet's ability to win against long-standing incumbents.
Julien Bek, the lead investor from Sequoia, described the decision to reinvest as "very easy" given the company's growth. Bek told TechCrunch that while accounting is the initial entry point, the broader opportunity lies in reinventing the entire finance function through "agentic finance."
Kopp attributes the platform's growth to a shortage of accountants in the U.S. and the ability of AI agents to handle corporate bookkeeping. To address security and regulatory concerns, Rillet recently introduced a governance feature that allows humans to audit AI-driven decisions.
