In the American League, the Rays are projected to win the AL East, bolstered by a 4½-game lead and a deadline move for Freddy Peralta. The Guardians are tapped for the AL Central, while the Mariners are projected to surge into the AL West title despite currently sitting third behind the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. CBS Sports notes that while the Detroit Tigers' front office "absolutely quit," the White Sox are projected to secure a wild card spot. The Red Sox and New York Yankees are also projected as wild card entries, with the Red Sox described as a "runaway train."

In the National League, the Brewers are projected to win the NL Central and potentially secure the best record in baseball. The Dodgers are expected to hold the NL West, despite a recent six-game losing streak and an eight-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Braves are projected to take the NL East over the Philadelphia Phillies.

For the National League wild cards, CBS Sports projects the Cubs in the fourth spot and the Phillies in fifth. The final spot is projected to go to the San Diego Padres, cited for their stellar bullpen and improved rotation following the deadline, beating out the Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami Marlins, and St. Louis Cardinals.
