Red Hat, OpenAI, and Nvidia are developing a controlled orchestration layer to move agentic AI from experimental tools to auditable enterprise infrastructure.

Red Hat, Nvidia, and OpenAI are collaborating on OpenClaw Enterprise (OCE), a project designed to transform agentic AI into a scalable enterprise utility. As The Register first reported, the project is being positioned as "Kubernetes for agents," signaling a shift toward a standardized orchestration layer for AI assistants.

OpenClaw, created by developer Peter Steinberger, initially faced severe scrutiny. The Register reports that Gartner labeled the project an "unacceptable cybersecurity risk" and China’s Computer Emergency Response Team warned of "extremely weak default security configurations."

To overcome these hurdles, OCE introduces an enterprise-grade control plane. Kevin Lin, a staffer at OpenAI, stated that the project aims to address the fact that many IT organizations currently ban agentic platforms due to a lack of security and governance standards. Lin noted that OCE 1.0 will implement multi-tenancy, hard security boundaries, and standardized agentic primitives, allowing companies to swap out models, sandboxes, and harnesses with internal or third-party solutions.

Joe Fernandes, vice president and general manager of Red Hat’s AI Business Unit, compared the effort to the evolution of Linux and Kubernetes. Fernandes wrote that just as those technologies moved enterprises toward open operating systems and cloud-native microservices, OCE is intended to make an open source project suitable for serious business use. The project, which began at OpenAI, was subsequently donated to the OpenClaw Foundation.
