NFL Reviewing Jed York After Ohio Prostitution Sting

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Wednesday at owners' meetings in Atlanta that the league is reviewing whether San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York will be punished under the personal conduct policy, according to The Guardian.

York, 46, was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, during a prostitution sting conducted by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, The Guardian reports. Law enforcement said York tried to pay $160 for sex with a woman he believed to be a prostitute. While initially charged with engaging in prostitution, prosecutors amended the charge to disorderly conduct, per Yahoo Sports and The Guardian.

The Guardian reports that York pleaded no contest to the disorderly conduct charge and to possessing criminal tools after using his phone to answer an undercover online ad. He received a $1,150 fine, was ordered to take an online course, and was sentenced to one day in jail for both crimes to be served concurrently. He was released Monday after posting a $5,000 bond and receiving credit for one day served, The Guardian reports. The $160 seized by police was later turned over to the human trafficking task force.

According to The Guardian, the NFL has previously disciplined owners for misconduct, citing a 2014 instance where Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was fined $500,000 and suspended for six games following a driving while impaired plea. However, the league did not punish New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft after a 2019 arrest for allegedly paying for sex, a case where charges were dropped due to police violating rights via secret cameras, The Guardian reports.

York, who became the 49ers principal owner in 2024 and holds stakes in Leeds United and Rangers, filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle, in May, according to court records cited by The Guardian.
