The company is introducing 'Your Algorithm' tools to allow users to manually steer their feed and Reels recommendations.
Meta is expanding its "Your Algorithm" feature to Facebook, moving a tool previously available on Instagram to the social network, as The Verge first reported. The feature allows users to directly manage and add specific topics they wish to see within their Facebook feed and Reels.
Users can influence their recommendations by selecting "interested" or "not interested" via the three-dots menu on individual posts or through buttons appearing under content. Meta states that the system may ask follow-up questions for further detail, and users can provide feedback in their own words to adjust what they see. Meta claims that recommendations adapt within the same session to reflect current user preferences in real time.
This update is part of a broader suite of AI-powered customization tools. The Verge reports that Meta is increasingly utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) within its ranking systems. By leveraging LLMs to interpret the intent, context, and interests behind natural language, Meta aims to create an algorithm that users can effectively "talk to" to refine their content experience. Meta previously deployed a similar "Dear Algo" feature on its Threads platform.
