Kade Anderson Validates Top Prospect Status With Perfect Double-A Outing

Seattle Mariners left-hander Kade Anderson reinforced his status as a premier talent on Friday, tossing five perfect innings for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers in a victory over the Tulsa Drillers. According to Sports Illustrated, the 22-year-old retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out seven and throwing 43 of 56 pitches for strikes.

The performance came just one day after Keith Law of The Athletic named Anderson the No. 1 MLB prospect. The former LSU star and 2025 third-overall draft pick has been remarkably efficient in his first professional season. Sports Illustrated reports that through 15 starts, Anderson holds a 1.27 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP, with 115 strikeouts and only 10 walks across 77 2/3 innings. His fastball typically reaches 92-94 mph, complemented by a changeup, curveball, and slider.

Despite the dominance, the Mariners appear to be managing Anderson's workload carefully. Sports Illustrated noted a three-week gap between his July 3 start and Friday's outing, which included the All-Star break and the 2026 Futures Game.

There is growing speculation regarding when Anderson will reach the majors. While Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reported in June that Anderson and right-handed prospect Ryan Sloan could join the Mariners' mix by late summer, the organization's trade deadline moves may dictate the timing. Sports Illustrated suggests a potential bullpen role could protect Anderson's innings while allowing him to contribute during a postseason push.
