Fenway Sports Group offloads a minority stake in Liverpool to a consortium led by Amit Bhatia and Jeff Bezos while retaining operational control.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has executed a significant minority stake sale in Liverpool, bringing in a consortium known as K5 Sports Fund. According to reporting from Sports Illustrated, the investment group includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, Elaine Saverin, and former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia.

From a valuation perspective, BBC Sport reports the deal is worth in excess of $2 billion, with Liverpool's overall valuation estimated between $6.8 billion and $8.1 billion. The Athletic reports that K5 Sports Fund acquired between 30 percent and one-third of the club. This represents the first cash injection for FSG since September 2023, when the group sold a 3 percent stake to Dynasty Equity, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Despite the scale of the capital infusion, the governance structure is designed to ensure FSG maintains absolute operational authority. A statement from the club confirms that FSG retains majority ownership and operational control. The Athletic further notes that there will be no changes to the current leadership team and that FSG will continue to oversee day-to-day operations.

While the consortium brings significant wealth—including Bezos, who Forbes identifies as the world's third-richest person with a net worth of approximately $271 billion—their formal influence is tiered. Sports Illustrated reports that Amit Bhatia will serve as vice-chairman and the lead partner in the deal. Eduardo and Elaine Saverin will also join the club's board. Jeff Bezos, however, will not hold a seat on the board.

Regarding the utility of the funds, Sports Illustrated notes that the Premier League's Squad Cost Ratio rules—which replaced Profit and Sustainability rules—prevent the investment from directly increasing player wages or transfer spending. Instead, the investment is positioned to drive revenue growth through expanded sponsorship opportunities. This is critical given that Liverpool generated approximately €836 million during the 2024–25 season, according to the Deloitte Football Money League.

FSG President Mike Gordon stated that the consortium shared the group's long-term philosophy, while the club's official statement noted the investment brings together experts from technology, investment, and global business to enhance objectives both on and off the pitch.
