Empirik Launches to Automate Infrastructure Outage Prediction

As first reported by TechCrunch, Empirik has raised $21 million in seed funding from Alumni Ventures, Canapi, and Sequoia to spin out as an independent company. The startup focuses on preventing technical outages by tracking system changes and inferring their potential ripple effects across infrastructure, rather than reacting to failures after they occur.
Founded by tech veterans Avon Puri and Sudheer Dhurjati, the company was incubated by Sequoia in 2023. Sequoia partner Bogomil Balkansky told TechCrunch that most current observability tools struggle to understand complex system dependencies. Empirik functions as an autonomous "traffic cop" that manages risk by permitting low-risk changes, establishing guardrails for larger updates, and flagging high-risk changes for human review.
By automating routine troubleshooting, the tool allows site reliability engineering (SRE) and DevOps teams to focus on higher-value priorities. CEO Kartik Chandrayana, formerly of Salesforce and Quantum Metric, told TechCrunch that Empirik intends to do for infrastructure engineering what agentic AI did for software development.
Empirik has already secured a customer base that includes startups and Fortune 500 companies such as Guardant Health, S&P Global, and an unnamed major consumer packaged goods (CPG) company. According to Balkansky, Empirik serves as a complementary layer to other AI SRE platforms, including Traversal and Resolve.
