The company is expanding its AI agent ecosystem through a series of strategic acquisitions as it reaches a $7 billion revenue run rate.

Databricks has acquired Row Zero, an early-stage spreadsheet startup, as TechCrunch first reported. The move aims to merge business intelligence, AI agents, and spreadsheets into a single interface, allowing users to manipulate secure data using familiar spreadsheet formulas rather than separate software.

Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi stated on X that the acquisition was sparked after the company's own finance team began using Row Zero—a cloud tool capable of scaling beyond 1 million rows—in conjunction with Genie, Databricks' proprietary AI agent. Genie enables users to query data using natural-language prompts for tasks such as analyzing sales prospects or profit margins.

While the financial terms of the Row Zero deal were not disclosed, TechCrunch reports that the startup, founded by former Tableau and AWS engineers, had raised $10 million in May 2025 at an estimated $40 million valuation.

This acquisition is part of a broader buying spree in 2026. According to TechCrunch, Databricks has recently acquired several other firms:

* **Quotient AI** (evaluation and reinforcement learning for AI agents) and **SiftD.ai** (interactive notebooks) in March. * **Panther** (AI security operations center), which had a $1.4 billion valuation in 2021, in June. * **Electric**, the creator of the PGlite Postgres database, last month.

Databricks recently closed $5 billion in funding in August and has reached a $7 billion annualized revenue run rate. Ghodsi told TechCrunch that the company intends to pursue more acquisitions of this nature in the future.
