As first reported by TechCrunch, Evvy has secured a $40 million Series B funding round, led by Catalio Capital Management, to scale its efforts in the vaginal microbiome space. Founded in 2021 by Priyanka Jain, Laine Bruzek, and Pita Navarro, the company has positioned itself as a pioneer in precision medicine for women, leveraging a business model that blends direct-to-consumer testing with large-scale data aggregation.
At the core of Evvy's offering is what the company describes as the world's only at-home, CLEP-certified and CLIA-certified mNGS (metagenomic next-generation sequencing) test. According to reporting from TechCrunch, the process is streamlined: users provide a single swab sample, mail it to Evvy's laboratory for mNGS sequencing, and receive results via a health portal. These results are then reviewed by clinicians registered on the Evvy platform.
CEO and co-founder Priyanka Jain told TechCrunch that the goal is to provide patients with a diagnosis and clinical interpretation, which can lead to personalized prescription care. To date, Evvy claims to have served more than 100,000 patients in the U.S. and partnered with 3,000 practitioners.
### Clinical Utility vs. Data Collection
While the immediate product is a diagnostic test, Jain's broader vision is the construction of a massive, proprietary dataset. She told TechCrunch that the company aims to link microbiome biology with symptoms, interventions, and health outcomes to create a "continuous feedback loop" intended to discover new biomarkers and improve care.
From an evidence-first perspective, the question is whether this dataset translates into actionable clinical breakthroughs or simply serves as an expensive archive of microbiome snapshots. Jain points to the company's academic output as evidence of progress, noting that Evvy has produced 15 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, identified novel subtypes of bacterial vaginosis (BV), and discovered hundreds of previously uncatalogued vaginal microbiome genomes.
However, much of the company's most ambitious forecasting remains in the data-gathering phase. Evvy is currently attempting to establish scientific links between the vaginal microbiome and several high-stakes health issues, including:

To pursue these goals, the company launched a prospective study last year utilizing its microbiome tests within IVF clinics. Evvy is also betting heavily on artificial intelligence to synthesize its collected data. In May, the company introduced EvvyAI, an AI assistant designed as a vaginal health advisor. TechCrunch reports that this tool translates collected microbiome data into real-time guidance for users, though it directs patients to human clinicians for expert opinions.
Jain's thesis is that AI can identify patterns across molecular signals, hormones, and fertility outcomes that traditional medicine has missed. Yet, this reliance on AI underscores the company's primary objective: the acquisition of biological data at scale. Without the underlying data, the AI is a shell; with it, Evvy hopes to create a "new-age Pap smear"—a non-invasive, at-home test capable of providing insights into everything from HPV progression and endometriosis to PCOC and premenopause.
### A Crowded Field
Evvy is not alone in the pursuit of vaginal health data. TechCrunch notes that other companies operating in this space include Daye, Tiny Health, and Juno Bio. As these firms compete to map the microbiome, the industry is shifting toward a model where the patient is not just a recipient of care, but a source of the data driving the research.
For now, Evvy's trajectory suggests a company moving beyond simple diagnostics toward a broader biological intelligence play. Whether this leads to a fundamental shift in how women's health is treated or remains a sophisticated exercise in data mapping depends on whether the "feedback loop" Jain describes can produce validated, reproducible clinical outcomes.
