Chargers WR Ladd McConkey Undergoing Tests Following Chest Injury

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is scheduled for further testing Monday to determine the extent of a potential ribs injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network via RotoWire.

McConkey was forced from the Chargers' season opener against the Arizona Cardinals after absorbing a "thunderous hit" over the middle of the field late in the third quarter, as reported by RotoWire. Sports Illustrated reports that McConkey immediately exited the game and was unable to return. While the Chargers initially classified the ailment as a chest injury, RotoWire reports that McConkey grabbed at both his chest and back following the impact. He is expected to undergo an MRI and X-rays on Monday.

Prior to the injury, McConkey recorded 82 yards and a touchdown on five of seven targets, according to Sports Illustrated. RotoWire lists his current status as questionable with an estimated return date of September 20, 2026.

The injury leaves a void in the Chargers' receiving corps. Sports Illustrated notes that tight end David Njoku finished behind McConkey with 58 yards, while wide receiver Tre' Harris recorded 20 yards. The loss is particularly impactful for quarterback Justin Herbert; Sports Illustrated reports that Herbert struggled significantly in the fourth quarter after McConkey left the game, recording an interception and two turnovers on downs across four drives.
