Brooklyn Projected as NBA Cap Space Leader for 2027

The Brooklyn Nets are currently projected to possess the most cap space in the NBA following the conclusion of the 2026-27 season, according to reporting from Nets Wire. Based on data from Spotrac's Keith Smith, Brooklyn is projected to have $68.6 million in cap space, placing them ahead of the Chicago Bulls ($55.6 million), Los Angeles Clippers ($53.8 million), Detroit Pistons ($43.9 million), and Milwaukee Bucks ($43.3 million).

This financial positioning provides the Nets with significant leverage as they eye a market that could include high-profile unrestricted free agents such as Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Tyler Herro.

However, Nets Wire notes that this projection is subject to change based on two key personnel moves. First, forward Michael Porter Jr. is eligible for a contract extension worth up to four years and $234 million; the structure of any potential deal reached this offseason could significantly alter Brooklyn's available space next year. Second, ESPN's Shams Charania reports that the Nets signed center Mo Wagner to a two-year, $18 million contract. Nets Wire clarifies that if Wagner's deal includes a team option for the second year that the organization declines, his contract may not impact the 2027 cap figure.

If Porter Jr. does not sign an extension and the Wagner option is declined, Brooklyn is expected to have nearly $70 million in available space to weaponize during the 2027 offseason.
